A company’s “beta” coefficient is a measure of a stock’s volatility in relation to the rest of the market. The Beta is calculated for individual companies using regression analysis.
The beta coefficient is a key parameter in the capital asset pricing model (or CAPM). It measures the part of the asset’s statistical variance that cannot be mitigated by the diversification provided by the portfolio of many risky assets, because it is correlated with the return of the other assets that are in the portfolio.
The Beta coefficient for a publicly traded company can be found in the stock reports of S & P’s NetAdvantage here:

We have a few databases that have data from European companies. For the most comprehensive coverage, of both public and private companies, try Amadeus. This database includes data on the top 250,000 companies from 34 European countries. It allows for multiple searching criteria and offers many reporting functions, including downloading financial data into spreadsheet format. (Click on “Support” in the upper right for a nice users guide).
For large, public, European firms, financial data can also be found in either Mergent Online or Thomson Research (click on “Worldscope” to access international company data). Mergent contains data on 20,000 non-U.S. companies; Thomson covers more than 50,000 companies incorporated in over 70 countries, including some private companies.

You can go right to the source. The U.S Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development jointly announce residential construction statistics and make them available on the Census Web page here. You will be able to access the most recently released data (as of today, that would be March 2008), as well as historical data. Most files are available in PDF and Excel format.
