How much did I pay for this stock in 1982?

Posted by magroth on March 19, 2008

That is a question that often comes up around tax time. There are free web sites that have daily stock price data going back about 30 years.  Try either Yahoo Finance or Google Finance.  We also subscribe to a database, Mergent Online, that provides the daily stock price  going back about 30 years (pull up a company and click on the “Equity Pricing” tab).  For stock prices older than 30 years, or for companies that have since been acquired by another company,  we have a print resource for the NYSE going back to 1962, a print resource for the American Stock Exchange going back to 1962 and a print resource for the OTC market, now NASDAQ, going back to 1968.   Those print volumes are located here in the reference collection.
